Where is God Using You? / by Alumni Development

Studying at Southeastern Seminary flipped my world upside down, it stretched me to my emotional, mental and spiritual limits and it caused me to move my family halfway around the world. And you know what? If we could go back and do it all again, we wouldn’t have it any other way. If you have taken a class at this school, then you know that Southeastern faculty don’t just teach content, they make disciples. Because of that investment by godly men and women in our lives, my family served in partnership with the 2+2 program and the International Mission Board for two years in Tokyo, Japan as frontline missionaries to one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. And today, we have returned to North Carolina where we are working with Vertical Church in Hillsborough, North Carolina. There, I serve as the discipleship pastor to a relatively young church family built on the principle of multi-cultural integration and reproducible church planting. I'm working with the experiences and wisdom that I’ve gained from Southeastern and our time on the field to create a healthy culture of biblical disciple-making as well as to cultivate a thriving strategy for missions both locally and globally.

If you would pray for me, my family and our church, I would ask you to pray that God unifies every person connected with Vertical Church with a burdened heart for being a healthy disciple and a healthy disciple-maker - to obey the Great Commission across the street and across the seas. Pray also for our family, that we would weather well what is proving to be a bumpy transition from field work back to pastoral work in the American church. It’s a transition from serving alongside each other day in and day out in our ministries to separate jobs with different hours that don’t allow my wife and I to work together like we used to in ministry. We are genuinely excited for the doors that are open to us on this side of the Pacific, but much of it is uncharted territory for our family, so we covet your prayers and I pray that we can ultimately serve beside you in building His Kingdom and finishing the task.
